As seen on ITV’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’
and GMTV’s ‘Entertainment Today’ May 2002 BBC’c 'The Sorcerers Apprentice’
programme 2 of series 2.
Animalgique is a mix of fantasy and illusion, depicting a world in which he would like to live.
‘’So come with them to their world of
magic and mystery, where man and animal live in peace and walk together without
fear. Let us remind you of the beauty around as we take into the world of
Animalgique, gique, gique, gique, gique!’’
Although welcoming television work with open arms, touring the show live would be far too stressful on his animal family, which consists of Dogs, Cats, rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Rats, skunks, Snakes, Doves, Pigeons, Parrots, Silver Fox and owls.
For Steve
Lucock ‘Animalgique’ is not just a magic act, it is a way of life. He is an act
working for the ‘Welfare Of Animals’ and his goal is to be able to entertain but
also explain about the particular animal and hopefully raise awareness and money
for the charities involved with that animal in order to help it in the wild.
All of his pets are inspected and approved by the R.S.P.C.A and magic is quite simply a platform in which he can show off his beautiful pets and raise issues about the way animals are treated.
At least 80 percent of the animals are rescue animals which have either been
found or are in need
of medical attention. Due to this fact his pets soon get
used to their own animal carrying cases and feel totally comfortable in short
transit.
When devising a magic trick or illusion for one of his pets, the animals have to be as comfortable as they would be in their pet carrier. They all have plenty of room to move around and none of his pets are taught to perform, they are quite simply lifted out of a box and loved.
If any of the animals are nervous of the carrying case or show any sign of not
wanting to be included, then they do not do it.
Although wishing to do television work, whether in magic or presenting, Steve’s main ambition is to open a sanctuary where he can rescue and care for unwanted creatures in a kind and loving way, in beautiful surroundings and hopefully show people the trusting bond that should be between man and animal.
S
ince first appearing on television Steve Lucock has literally been inundated
with stray and unwanted animals, whether it be through people not being able to
afford to keep them during the credit crunch or simply because the animal is no
longer wanted. Sometimes animals are simply dumped in a box on his door step,
often terribly nervous and sometimes pregnant. People often take on more exotic
animals, Birds or reptiles without realising what exactly is involved as the
animal gets bigger or more mature.
THEY ARE NOT JUST ANIMALS... THEY ARE FRIENDS AND FAMILY
Saviour
‘The long haired German shepherd’ who was found ‘dumped’ on the streets of Newcastle Upon Tyne is the only rescued dog and even though he does not like most humans, he gladly welcomes and cares for all the creatures that live with him. The rabbits run up to him as he walks past their enclosures and he has been known to carefully pick one up and place it back in the hutch if a rabbit is out exercising and strange noise is heard! He has caringly welcomed and helped to bring up 3 kittens in the last couple of years, 2 of which ‘Angelica & Misty’ were on deaths door when they were rescued and it’s down to him constantly cleaning and caring for them that they survived Steve’s home is jokingly referred to by his family as ‘Saviours Haven’.

Rabbits

Probably one of the most under rated pets around, Often left bored stiff in a dirty hutch once the novelty of owing one has worn off.
Rabbits have fantastic personalities, they can be litter trained and many of these you see here are actually more like dogs when it comes to their relationship with Steve.
Owls

Since Harry Potter became more popular more parents are buying Owls as pets. Owls Look cute and cuddly but do need a certain understating and should not be bought as children’s toys.

Merlin
This loveable little rate could not be sold by the pet shop as he was too vicious. He has never bitten since the day I got him and enjoys ‘Animal Interactive Shows’ and being cuddled hugged and made a fuss of.
Minstrel
The Jacobean pigeon has been totally over bred. He found helpless in North shields unable to fly. He is not used in any shows but spends his days in the safety of Steve’s home.
Fuzz-Ball
The long haired Guinea Pig is best friends with ‘Bobbin’ the white rabbit but they don’t live together. Rabbits and Guinea Pigs do get on well but should not live together as one will bully the other and that can lead to death.
Roly Poly
Skunks are the most beautiful creatures and are becoming more popular as pets.
However!!!
When you buy a skunk it has to of been de-scented. There are only few vets left in this country that will do it as most vets thinks its terribly cruel. When you de-scent the skunk, the scent gland is removed. This can lead to major organs in the skunks body collapsing and this beautiful animal will die.
Harpo
Everybody loves this comical Green Winged Macaw. But these birds normally only take to one person and are vicious to others. They have a ten tonne crushing power in their beak and will remove a finger without any effort at all. They are said to have the mental age of a 5 year old child and need a lot of time and mental stimulation. Unfortunately they are quite often dumped in sanctuaries or simply left in their cage. This causes stress which leads to feather plucking and can often end in the bird dying. Harpo and Steve are best buddies…A Friend for life!
Kell
Snakes are becoming more popular as pets but soon people get bored of them or the snake grows to big to be handled. Always makes sure you know how big the snake will grow and take professional advice ‘BEFORE’ you purchase one.
Remember: Certain snakes can grow big enough to eat you. What are you going to do with it when it is grown to its full size.
Valentine
This beautiful Java Dove does work with Steve occasionally in magic but there are no ‘slight of hand’ or ‘up the sleeve’ tricks with this dove. Only friendly boxes in which he is free to move. He is not clipped or trimmed in any way.
Zoltar
This magnificent silver fox will hopefully cause awareness and help raise issues
regarding the fur farms that still breed these beautiful creatures, simply to
slaughter and skin them just so we can have soft fur trimmings on our clothes.
The silver fox is not like a normal fox you see in the countryside. Right or
wrong these were bread and experimented on for many decades to develop an animal
as friendly as a dog. Abroad they are popular as pets and it is now catching on
in this country. Remember no matter how friendly they are they still have a
foxes instinct. Unfortunately fur farms realised the benefit of this friendly
creature and decided to breed them as well. The ones they can’t sell as pets…Get
Skinned. Steve is not asking you to go and but one as a pet. He is asking you to
SAY ‘NO’ TO FUR!
Steve would like to take this opportunity to thank the following
‘Harveys pet shop, In Blyth. Harvey and his family have donated so much food, straw and hay. Without their help and support they would not have been able to cope.
‘Ferguson’s Blyth Ltd T/A Fergy Space’ with so many illusions, magic props, costumes and electrical equipment, Steve was fast running out of space. Fergusons very kindly donated 40ft outdoor container plus an indoor storage unit at their newly built indoor storage facility ‘Fergy Space’ on Northumberland Business Park West, Cramlinton, Nothumberland NE23 7RH 0191 2502250.
The indoor facility can be accessed 24 hours a day 7 days a week and its security is second to none. Thanks to these facilities being donated, Steve has had more space to house his animals.
‘Quay 2 Media’ Based at 2a Union Quay Northshields NE30 1HJ, Antonia and Christian have proved to be invaluable. They have helped Steve endlessly by raising their profile in order to get publicity and donations for the animals.
